Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and continuing assault against it by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area in the area of the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any destruction is unclear and the US has not commented.

Missile Defenses Activated

In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - said they have intercepted missiles in their airspace.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

IRGC Statement

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was striking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the offensive on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That preceding assault - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck sites associated with the the regime, with US President Donald Trump urging the Iranian people to revolt against the leadership.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with notable success and destroyed a number of missiles," the statement continued.

The statement noted debris fell on a neighborhood in the capital, causing some property damage and the death of one civilian.

The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
