The anticipation about the recent awards show has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The mystery is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is creating a brand-new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer featuring striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian clarified that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This phrasing implies that the team might be building a real-time experience instead of another tactical title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it sparked the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, player agency, and deep class systems—elements that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs that are viable with a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously flexible, letting players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be completed in multiple ways, often in surprising fashion.
- You might progress the story because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is this design philosophy that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, players can look forward to a new entry in this legendary franchise.
