New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and is confident the athlete will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn shared that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “upbeat” during a recent discussion.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His family, they are doing well and he will walk away from this just fine.”

It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where his condition is described as critical but stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” Glenn remarked. “But I will say this, just talking to him, he felt really upbeat. Once more, that reassures me, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

Authorities released video stills earlier this week of a man sought in the incident involving Boyd. A motive for the shooting is still being looked into and police mentioned it is unknown if Boyd was singled out. There were no additional victims were reported.

The shooting happened in the early morning on Sunday morning in the area between the famous arena and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to a local hospital after being shot in the abdomen, according to authorities. The assailant escaped.

Glenn said Boyd has occupied his thinking “constantly” since learning of the incident. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a newborn.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he has a new baby,” Glenn said. “My mind went to his family, I’m thinking about his kid and my priority is his well-being. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“A certain process is underway, that I won’t detail, but I am pleased that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd was inactive this season, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on August 18 with an injury to his shoulder that required surgery.

Boyd came to New York as a new signing in spring and was anticipated to become an important component of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during a training camp practice on early August and was carted from the field.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad all season long while healing from his surgery.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn said. “Certainly, he attends every game. His commitment is total. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, a Texas native, began his career with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of Texas University in 2019. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and moved to Houston’s squad after that. Boyd inked a single-season agreement for $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
