McKenna's Stance on Celtic

McKenna referred to the Glasgow giants as "an enormous football club" but stressed he is "deeply involved" of a "extensive rebuilding" with Ipswich Town.

The 39-year-old took charge of Portman Road in 2021 and guided the team to the Premier League with back-to-back promotions, but they managed only four games last campaign as they were demoted back to the second division and they presently occupy twelfth place in the Championship.

"There have been such discussions," the English capital native former Northern Ireland youth international said when asked about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"It's not something I have given any thought to, or where any portion of my focus is this week.

"I possess a unique position here at a special team. And we're at a really important phase of the season. Everything outside of that hasn't touched my awareness."

Context and Contractual Details

Reports indicate that McKenna would be open to speaking to the Scottish side given his boyhood allegiances.

"During youth, we all have our preferences," he said when questioned about these. "It's unlikely everyone has to publicly and announce what they used to be, but naturally it's a massive football club."

McKenna agreed to a fresh multi-year deal in last year and was asked about his alleged £5m release clause.

"Throughout coaching agreements, there are provisions," he replied. "I don't know what my specific terms are and, if I did, I wouldn't tell you regardless!

"I approach this role like I'll be Ipswich manager forever. I know that's not invariably going to be the case, but I'll always do my best as while I am here."

Bellamy's Position

Bellamy represented the Hoops on loan from the Magpies in 2005, but the ex- Wales striker is inclined to complete the ongoing global tournament campaign, a stance that would practically eliminate the 46-year-old from immediately taking the Glasgow position.

The Welsh squad are presently in third place in their World Cup group behind group toppers the Red Devils and second-placed North Macedonia.

Wins over the minnows and their rivals in November would secure their position in the qualification play-offs, but they are virtually assured of reaching that stage, due to a successful Nations League performance, even if they not finish as Group J runners-up.

Given his present position, Bellamy, whose agreement expires after Euro 2028, would be unavailable until after the play-offs at the minimum.
