Outrage as Popular South African DJ Gunned Down in Johannesburg.
A popular South African radio and club DJ has been fatally gunned down in the country's largest city Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a nation battling entrenched crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was attacked in the downtown area on a Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the forty-year-old media personality was approached by three suspects, one of whom opened fire on him before running away.
The purpose of the attack remains unclear and no suspects have been apprehended are in custody, as per the official statement.
Details of the Attack
Police indicated that Stock was attacked as he was exiting a building in the vicinity of the Carlton Centre.
He had been present for hours at the property overseeing the setup of safety equipment, which had been controversially occupied by unidentified individuals, as per local media.
"Authorities believe the deceased was confronted by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they shot at him before escaping on foot," authorities confirmed.
CCTV footage showed a man with dreadlocked hair and dressed in what looked like a protective services outfit firing shots on Stock before running away.
The DJ tried to run away after he was shot but collapsed on the opposite side of the road.
Police added that Stock had an unused firearm and no items were stolen during the assault.
Crucial forensic evidence, like spent shells, were found at the scene.
Call for Public Assistance
Officials are asking eyewitnesses who may have witnessed the attack to assist with the investigation.
"Our information indicates they covered significant ground after the attack, and investigators have been attempting to locate them to determine their location," added an official.
A Nation in Mourning
His sister, a close relative, said the family was struggling to come to terms with the loss.
"I am devastated. I am shattered," she stated.
"We know he was a representative for countless citizens. He spoke out bravely about topics not many people were ready to discuss. This is a devastating blow."
She requested the public to refrain from sharing explicit content from the scene, saying this was an incredibly difficult time, particularly for Stock's three sons.

Stock was the star of Ngicel' iVisa, a reality show that was broadcast on a popular local digital satellite entertainment channel.
In addition to his work in broadcasting, Stock was active in various entrepreneurial pursuits, including security provision, offering VIP protection services and managing safety for high-profile events across South Africa.
He was also said to be engaged in building administration and participated in property reclaimations.
National Shock
His murder has shocked the country and led to an outpouring of tributes from his followers, the government and political parties.
A cabinet official said he was angry and saddened by Stock's killing.
"He expressed his views fearlessly and impartially. He even criticized me and my actions as a minister. He was a shining model of who we ought to be," the minister added.
A political leader said the "shocking killing of DJ Warras in the middle of the day is a shock for all South Africans".
A broadcasting director expressed that "Stock was more than just a face of a reality series. He was a skilled narrator, a true devotee of sound and a generous spirit who brought happiness and vitality to every performance. His artistic passion left an lasting impression."
In a communication, the network he worked for affirmed Stock was known for his charisma, warmth and sharp wit, adding that his memory "will endure".
