Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Loss

Arne Slot admitted that it's understandable for questions to be raised about his future following another heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.

Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in twelve matches, marking the club's poorest run since being demoted in 1953-54.

They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a tough night at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got plenty of support from management,” the coach remarked.

“It's important to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that doubts arise.”

He continued, “I am OK with my role. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”

Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to expand on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:

“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they back me.”

He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I sense the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so we'll see.”

Familiar Failings and Player Response

The manager lamented known shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the current crisis.

“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones said.

“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”

He went on, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club all my life.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side going through a period like this with results like these.”

He stated, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we'll continue to battle.”

“We’re going to try to help the side back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”

“At this moment, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
