Supporters Urge Custody of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Passionate followers of the pop star are urging that a person who breached a barrier and seized the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good launch be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A viral video reveals the Australian man bypassing media personnel and rushing toward Grande while the performers made its way down a yellow carpet surrounded by fans.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the stunned performer away from Mr Wen, who was seen being escorted out of the event by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "let go after being arrested", though official papers revealed that he was due to be present on the following morning. It is unknown if he was charged.
Record of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Controversial Figure", has invaded a celebrity gathering. His Instagram feed features recordings of him interrupting other celebrity events, including breaching the performance area at the pop singer's Sydney performance in recently and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the same location last December.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is obviously a legal violation," stated an Instagram user, in a message to a video Mr Wen posted of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" one Instagram user remarked.
Supporters Express Concern Over Grande's Safety
Several supporters blamed Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had discussed dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist explosion at the end of her May 2017 performance in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming many.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said one more comment on Instagram.
Some fans also faulted event staff at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while others called for online networks to block Mr Wen's content.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In clips shared widely, Grande seemed surprised when she was approached by the individual. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has remained silent on the incident, and the remaining proceedings carried on uninterrupted.
Many of attendees had gathered in a mass of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good international debut in a Singapore shopping center, including a number who had waited for as long as a significant duration before it commenced.
The movie, to be launched on November 21, is the follow-up of a two-part version of the popular theatrical show Wicked, which centers on the surprising relationship between two very different witches.
The production itself is a derivative of the twentieth-century story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was decked out in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the gathering while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a sleek black dress decorated with roses.
They were accompanied by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the most successful motion picture of the previous year in the UK, and earned 10 Oscar nominations, earning a pair for outstanding attire and set decoration.
