The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Shares He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... Currently.

Vince Gilligan never anticipated that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a cultural phenomenon. “The viewers have been incredible,” Gilligan says. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

With the first season of the acclaimed series wrapping up—and the next chapter greenlit and underway—Gilligan and his team recently discussed the viewer reception and whether it will influence the storyline of Pluribus.

Regarding the Incredible Audience Reaction

One could easily to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and online debates about Pluribus. He is doing his best to ignore the noise.

“It's like being constantly eating your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he describes. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it anecdotally, and that's by design. Not once have I looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever intend to. Not because I don't care. It's a rabbit hole I know I would get lost in and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Despite trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to take it in stride and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“It is not our goal to tailor anything,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not influenced by audience chatter.”

“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan concludes.

A Pressing Query: Has the showrunner See the Finale of Pluribus?

Considering the writers aren't taking cues by public opinion, can we assume they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… with some caveats.

“We have some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan reveals. “yet we stand ready to abandon a good idea for a superior concept. That has held us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to serve as a last resort.

“I constantly suggest that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and the characters are inside it,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Of course, one could always use the iconic TV endings?

“I'd love for Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV.
