The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
It might not have been at the identical stature as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the beginning of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
This ceremony, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, provided by a first responder, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The craze became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently made “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to begin the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the character of Miami: vibrant, varied, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Every time, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
