Three-time award winner Jokic endures a 'heartbreaking' injury to his knee.
Three-time National Basketball Association MVP Jokic suffered a "gut-wrenching" knee injury as the Nuggets were defeated by a score of 147-123 at the Heat.
The Serbian center sustained the injury late in the first half during an accidental collision with fellow Nugget Jones.
Jones landed on the footwear of the MVP, who promptly fell to the floor clutching his leg.
The veteran player, who leads the NBA season in rebounds and dimes, had 21 points and eight assists in the matchup prior to sustaining the setback.
Jokic is scheduled for an scan on Tuesday to evaluate the severity of the injury.
"Instantly, Jokic understood there was a problem," commented Denver coach Adelman.
"This happens in professional sports. Anyone that is injured, that's difficult, most notably a player as special as he is. More information will come on Tuesday."
"We'll move on as a team. Clearly, at this moment, I'm focused primarily about Jokic as a person and the letdown of experiencing a situation of that nature."
