Trump Calls Families of Shot Guard Soldiers to White House
President Donald Trump revealed on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a Guard member killed last week to visit the executive mansion.
He added that he contacted her parents and they were “devastated”.
Details on the Heartbreaking Shooting
US army specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a shooting on last Wednesday in DC.
Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Vigils across the state have been held in their honor.
Presidential Offer
The commander-in-chief said he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both members of the state Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president told reporters. “And similarly with him, no matter the outcome.”
Public Support
Community members assembled over the past few days at the high school in West Virginia to honor Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s national effort to support public safety in the capital.
Honoring Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that educators desired. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a warm expression and a positive energy that lifted people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s former high school, told the press. “She was caring, caring and always willing to support those in need.”
Memorial arrangements for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Judicial Actions and Policy Revisions
Law enforcement have indicted a 29-year-old Afghan national with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while armed.
The tragedy caused the Trump administration to halt refugee claims and halt providing visas to holders of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of the Airman
Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, started his military career in 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, as reported by the news agency.
He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey said on television.
Attorney general Pam Bondi informed the program that she aimed to meet with the family.
Legacy of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County High in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a military police officer with excellence, as stated by the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had bravery,” Morrisey addressed the audience at the memorial. “Though her life was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
