According to a senior military official, the American military carried out a fatal strike on a vessel in the Pacific Ocean, killing four individuals.

“A US joint task force conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a craft linked to a terrorist group in international waters. Intelligence verified the vessel was traveling along a established drug smuggling route and was engaged in illicit drug transport. A total of four male drug traffickers were eliminated, and no American forces were harmed.”

Background and Recent Strikes

This announcement follows a day after a declaration regarding a naval blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. In that announcement on online platforms, the American leader accused Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund narcotics smuggling and other crimes, pledging to escalate the military presence.

Only on the previous day, US defense officials said it had conducted strikes on three boats suspected of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Beginning on 2 September, more than 20 strikes have killed at least 99 people, most off the coast of Venezuela.

Administration Justifies Actions Amid Scrutiny

The government has encountered increasing pressure to release video of a September 2nd vessel attack. But, officials have refused to do so. The administration has supported its campaign as a success, arguing it has prevented drugs from reaching US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is stretching the limits of legal military action.

Although the administration has said the campaign is about halting drugs headed to the US, remarks from a senior aide appeared to confirm a wider geopolitical objective. In a recently published interview, the senior advisor remarked the leader “wants to keep on blowing boats up until the Venezuelan president surrenders or concedes.”

This indicates the military campaign may be linked to a strategy to oust Venezuela's sitting leadership.
